Eastern Cottontail
Sylvilagus floridanus
40.6467, -73.5061
Field Notes
Description:
Small grizzled brown/gray animal with upright ears and large hind legs. White underbelly and underside of tail. Reddish fur on nape of neck. This one is molting so her coat looks a bit moth-eaten.
Habitat:
Cedar Creek County Park, New York. Living in and around dense shrubs near an archery range and marsh.
Notes:
This one casually hopped down the hill towards me while I was taking photographs. I think this one is a female since there was at least one recently weaned baby rabbit nearby.
