Description:
These large mushrooms are edible when young and it looks as if something has been nibbling on the second one in photo 2. They can grow between 10 and 150cm in diameter with these ones being on the smaller end of the scale. Sometimes confused with false puffball mushrooms which can be deadly if the spores are inhaled. Not edible if the inside is anything but white.
Habitat:
seen in the woodland area of Potteric Carr nature reserve, owned by the Yorkshire wildlife trust.
