Field Notes

Description:

Upper shel black to olive in color, relatively flat, smooth and oval. The shell seams are yellow, red or olive. Lower shell is not marked except on the margins where it is marked with yellow and red stripes. Head and neck are marked with yellow stripes.

Habitat:

Rivers, streams, lakes and ponds with slow moving water. Turtle prefer to bask on logs, rocks and in very shallow water.

Notes:

This turtle is widely distributed throughout the United states except for the southwest.
