Description:

Young nymphs have black and white banded antennae, and a pointed projection between eyes just above antennae.

Habitat:

Found in Zilker Botanical Gardens, Austin, TX, USA.

Katydids have much longer antennae, sometimes longer than the body itself.

Thanks Bayucca. I was thinking it was a grasshopper nymph. Don't have much experience with katydids.

Tettigoniidae, Phaneropterinae, Scudderia sp., unfortunately it is probably not possible to get down to species level. Bugguide reports a whole bulk of Scudderia nymphs and almost all without a species ID. http://bugguide.net/node/view/122984/bgimage?from=0
