Description:

P. n. californicus- North American subspecies. A small water bird- black head and neck and back, Reddish sides and wings, white breast, tan "ears" are feathers in the breeding plumage. The bright red eyes are slightly spooky

Habitat:

Windward side of lakeshore and islands

Notes:

A new species for me! Diving for small fish
