Description:

Second largest raptor in Montana. Dark brown body with white head and tail, large yellow beak.

Habitat:

Not far from water. Here, nesting in a riparian zone of a small creek with cattle grazing below.

Notes:

This is the second year bald eagles have used this nest. With over 400 pairs nesting in Montana now, what was considered marginal habitat is now being utilized by this species which used to be endangered just a few years ago. This pair hatched 2 chicks in 2013.
