Description:
Late to flower because of the cold start to the year these greater butterfly orchids will open to about 40 separate white flowers on the one stem. similar to Jasmine these are night scented to attract the specific insects to pollinate them. The lesser and the greater have different fragrances therefore attract a different insect each presumably to avoid cross pollination.
Habitat:
found in low common Maltby an SSSI owned and maintained by the Yorkshire wildlife trust.
