Field Notes

Description:

Looks very similar to an earwig, but it is not! Also resembles a mutant ant. Has thin black mandibles. Thought maybe it was a queen termite or king termite of some sort. Please help me identify this creepy crawly!

Habitat:

Spotted walking through my garden that consists of red mulch with dirt underneath. Plant life includes a rose bush, tulips, and several other plants I am not too familiar with.

Notes:

We rent a duplex with poor support beams (hoping for decor) in the front that is clearly dried and long from its prime. Ample food for hungry termites, which is what I am concerned this creepy crawly is.
