Field Notes

Description:

Three inches long from wings to antennae, body dark gray, wings dark gray with some iridescence. Larvae are aquatic, and build protective cases of silk decorated with gravel, sand, twigs or other plant material.

Habitat:

Streams, rivers, lakes, ponds, spring seeps, and temporary waters.

Notes:

They are nocturnal. This one spent the day sleeping on my aloe vera plant in the patio. Sometimes they get in at night and go crazy for the lights.
