Thanks for the info John.
Karen. You can generally tell ichneumonids and braconids from the rest of the Hymenoptera because they have lots (16 or more) of antennal segments. You can kind of see this in your picture. They also often have quite long ovipositors (at least the females) coming out the back end. After that you really need to be pretty familiar with the group, or be able to see wing venation to distinguish the two families.
