Description:

Known as Chakkarakkandal in Malayalam, which loosely translates to Sugar mangrove, this tree of about 5 mtres height is a mangrove species very resistant to the saline environment. The flowers bloom at dusk to be pollinated by bats. Ripe fruits are edible and the birds just love them.

Habitat:

Brackish water swamps.
