Field Notes

Description:

Although clumsy on land, they are agile in the air and have a soaring flight; they hold their heads drawn back and alternate flapping and guiding. You might notice them wheeling in wide circles high in the air.

Habitat:

Another two of the flock of a dozen that were resting, preening and sheltering from the wind of the next thunder storm on a sand spit in Graveyard Slough on Lake Lewisville took flight and joined others on a sandbar deeper in the lake.
