Field Notes

Description:

I have yet to see one up close, but in flight they are a decently large bird with white wing bars and a slightly forked tail. Their coloration is very cryptic and allows them to sleep during the day without being seen.

Habitat:

Saw dozens of these flying over a pond at dusk one evening, then the next evening saw close to 100 fly over within a 10 minute period. Had never noticed them before and took me awhile to figure out what they were.
