Description:

I spotted this killdeer nest on my farm and the female bird was trying to protect her nest by pretending to have a broken wing and limping away. As soon as I left, she ran back to her nest and sat on her eggs.

Habitat:

In a pasture of prairie grass in southeast Kansas, not far from a pond.
