Field Notes

Notes:

I saw much fewer butterflies on this visit in 2012 than when I visited Pismo Beach in early February 2011. The butterflies were a lot less active than on my last visit, possibly because the temperature was colder. Few fluttered singularly in the area; the majority clung closely together, high up on cypress and eucalyptus branches. From where we stood, they looked like dark leaves.
