Description:

This spider appears inside my house just now, and I´m afraid it´s a loxosceles. Any help to find the correct ID will be nice.

It´s about 40mm long. including the legs. Not agressive.

According to information from Butantã Institute in Brazil, (http://www.butantan.gov.br/), this is not a Loxosceles. It´s from the Ctenidae family, and it´s not a Phoneutria, the only one danger in the family. The complete ID is still not found.

that would be exceedingly large for any species of recluse. generally they are no bigger than the tip of your thumb, or the size of an american 10 cent piece (dime)

40-50mm= about the size of the tip of your thumb?

But, what about the size ? This one is about 40-50mm in diameter. This is not to big for a loxosceles ?

Rubens, I wouldn't bet a million dollars on it, but I am almost certain it is loxosceles. I would CAREFULLY put it in a jar and take it outside and release it away from the house.

Thanks Brandon. It´s really similar to a intermedia. So, it´s certainly a loxosceles ?

of course mostly I am going by memory of the three species of recluse that i know reside in Brazil. it's most similar to the intermedia, males can often appear almost blood red in color, while the females are slightly duller.

Loxosceles intermedia, do a search for this. I believe what you have may be a member of the recluse family.

I can't do much for the ID but that's certainly a male. What a pretty spider.
