Field Notes

Description:

A small butterfly, only about an inch long, maybe smaller, yellow spots on dark brown.. Body is fairly fat.

Habitat:

Found it in the countryside, near Sherwood park, Alberta. There were a few fluttering around in the tall grasses and clovers.

Hi! I don't know the specific species off the top of my head, but what you have here is actually a butterfly, not a moth - specifically it's something in the Skipper family. (The fat body is typical of this family. Another thing to look for is a kink near the end of each antenna.)
