Description:

The Red Spotted Newt is bright orangish-red in color, with darker red spots outlined in black. It can have as many as 21 of these spots. A Red Spotted Newt is a type of salamander. After two or three years, they become an adult. It turns olive green in color, gets a wider tail, it has slimy skin and begins to live in a pond.

Habitat:

The Red Spotted Newt likes to live in damp wet areas such as forests and around ponds. They can breathe underwater and on land.

Notes:

Newts have 4 fingers on the front two legs and 5 toes on each of the two back legs. My Red Spotted Newt was found in my neighbour's yard under a piece of wood.
