Description:
Lanceolate leaves with parallel veins that grow in a basal rosette (a bunch at the base). Long, leafless stalk with cylindrical flower at the top. Brownish-green flower head with tiny white flowers
Habitat:
Cedar Creek County Park, New York. Growing on the archery range. This plant grows well in lawns, roadsides and waste places.
Notes:
Edible. Young leaves are more palatable but leaves can be boiled to reduce bitterness. Seeds can be ground and used to make flour. Can be used medicinally as well. Considered a weed in many places.
