Description:
A perennial plant with trifoliate leaves, coarsely serrated and hairy. It's flowers are about a half inch across, consisting of 5 white petals, a dense cluster of green to pale yellow pistils and a ring of 20 -35 stamens with yellow anthers. The blooming period is late spring to mid summer. Afterwards, fertile flowers are replaced by small, bright red ovoid fruit which are 8 - 10 mm long.
Habitat:
Typical habitat is along trails and roadsides, embankments, hillsides, stone- and gravel-laid paths and roads, meadows, young woodlands, sparse forest, woodland edges, and clearings. It is tolerant of a variety of moisture levels (except very wet or dry conditions).
