Pond Pine
Pinus serotina
29.1825, -81.7123
Field Notes
Description:
A sapling about 6 feet tall. No cones on the tree to help with this tricky ID. (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...) Needles usually in bunches of 3. About 5-6 inches long.
Habitat:
The habitat is what led to believe this is Pond Pine... it was in somewhat damp, low ground, in rich soil along the Juniper Spring Run.
Notes:
I'm still considering Loblolly Pine, however. Someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, and tell me the difference. I'm still trying desperately to learn these confusing Florida Pines and Oaks. (Don't even get me started on the Oaks!!!)
