Field Notes

Description:

I think this is a damaged sample of Chlorophyllum molybdites I found in my backyard near a bird water fountain. If I have the species correct, it is quite toxic though not always deadly to people. I am not sure how toxic they would be to birds, dogs, cats, and or typical pets.

Habitat:

I think these are common in the west and often grow around grass clippings.

Notes:

At least one feral peach-faced lovebird got sick from eating this today, though I can't be certain.

I should note that mushrooms here are pretty rare in the desert. I have read these are the most common mushroom for people to become poisoned from. Fortunately, though the symptoms are horrible, most people don't die based on references listed.
