Description:
Common morning glory found in ditches, fencelines, roadsides. White to pinkish blossom. Elongated arrowhead-shaped leaf.
Other vernacular names include greater bindweed, bearbind, hedge convolvulus, hooded bindweed, old man's nightcap, wild morning glory, bride's gown, wedlock (referring to the white gown-like flowers and the binding nature of the vine), white witches hat, belle of the ball.
Habitat:
There are several subspecies of this plant found in the United States, one of which is non-native. Regardless of native or non-native status, several states list Calystegia sepium as a noxious weed.
Notes:
Spotted growing on a wooded drive near an old church and cemetery and a utility plant.
