Field Notes

Description:

With caps about 50 mm wide, these brick-red mushroom were growing in small colonies. some of the caps had remnants of partial veil around the margins. The older caps were beginning to dry-up starting from the margins. caps had low umbos.
Gills were a deep brown with gills slightly decurrent. Stipe looked rough and stained brown.
Spore print was a dark brown.

Habitat:

Spotted growing in leaf litter and wood chips. These are rarely seen in natural woodlands.
