Coastal Whiptail Lizard
Aspidoscelis tigris stejnegeri
33.5639, -117.545
Field Notes
Description:
I find this coastal whiptail lizard once or twice a week during a mid-day walk in roughly the same area. I'm always amazed at the size of his feet/claws (second photo) This lizard moves in short little bursts, very quickly, stirring up the ground debris. If I stay still long enough, this whiptail has come toward me instead of away- like most of the other lizard species in the area. Fun to watch.
