Field Notes

Description:

A chilli plant with broad soft leaves and ripe small chillies. This plant possibly grew from a single seed from someone who brought their food up here as chili peppers play an important role in local cuisine.

Habitat:

Growing on a ground beside the stairway up the hill in Agop Batu Tulug Archaeological Museum, located beside the highway between Sandakan and Lahad Datu, Sabah.

Notes:

>>>Map accuracy : 1km diameter. Fun fact ~ All the species of chilies originated from the Americas, cultivated for thousands of years and spread around the world.

Wow, I see many spice fans here. Thank you all for your comments. Hi Mark, as I have already mentioned in the description, I think some guy brought their spicy food up here and dropped a few seeds on the ground which resulted in them growing here. There are only about 2 of these plants here so I guess they are quite new and have not started dispersing their seeds yet.
Are they self-seeding there Chun? (I always think the upright ones are very hot)
