Eastern Snapping Turtle
Chelydra serpentina
39.6529, -78.7625
Field Notes
Description:
Common snappers are noted for their belligerent disposition when out of the water, their powerful beak-like jaws, and their highly mobile head and neck.
Habitat:
I found this turtle (and Painted Turtle friends) in the C&O Canal near Cumberland, MD. At first I thought he was a log because he is covered in muck!
