Field Notes

Description:

Spotted in my garden (first ever visit) at the beginning of May.
12cm,fully grown.
Normally two broods a year,sometimes three.
Partial migrant with many leaving the UK for France,Spain and Belgium during Winter
Popular cage-bird during the 19th Century

Habitat:

Breeds were there are scattered bushes and small trees.
Feeds on seeds,its relatively long bill allows it to extract seeds from thistles,teasels and dandelions.
