Description:

Part of the pieridae family, this one is a male as he has the striking orange tip to his wings giving him his common name. One of the first butterflys to emerge in spring but they don't stay still for long as they wander through meadows and woodlands looking for mates and food sources. The female lacks any orange and can be confused with the large white. wingspan around 4-5cm.

Habitat:

seen in ancient woodlands feeding on the bluebells.

Notes:

This subspecies was defined in 1908 and is found throughout the Brtish Isles. ( see reference)
