Found this stuck to my shirt while walking through trees. No clue where to even start.

Species ID Suggestions

Possibly a bagworm. The ones I'm familiar with used tiny little Eastern Hemlock tree needles, and weren't smooth like this one. But "bagworm" is resonating in my head....
Hmmmm..... scratching head.......very odd........how big? was it firm? Is that a shell of some sort? Cocoon perhaps?
