Field Notes

Description:

Dark brown/black, about 18 inches long, solid (not translucent) flapping wing like movements, the head had a oblong shape from side to side. The tail was fanned and flimsy.

Notes:

Photographed this practically on the surface of the water on a beach in Southampton, Bermuda. Some local Bermudians had never seen anything like this before. Can you identify this creature?

Growing up in California we saw these quite frequently. Seems they are all over the world.
