I honestly believe this to be an Ash-throated Flycatcher because of the dull underparts, slightly upturned slender bill, and rufous tail.
it maybe a Kingbird but then you have to know which one. In Kern River Preserve there are two. If you don't hear from Liam you can look them up and check out the images and compare the tail since that is the part of the bird you can see most of here. Cassin's Kingbird Western Kingbird
