Description:
This is a very large moth that measures about 4" from head to wing tip. they also have a wide wing span of up to 6". They are known from North to South America. They are excellent flyers. Adults feed at night and have proboscus that reach out nearly 6". Caterpillars feed on a variety of species. They pupate in subterranean chambers and on their backs.
Habitat:
|Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica beginning of the rainy season.
Notes:
My first Sphinx Moth sighting. It was attracted to some lights under my home.
