Field Notes

Description:

A brown hemispherical beetle looking like a gumnut.
The elytra are pitted and overall color is mottled browns.

Habitat:

On a large Red Box Gum in a habitat reserve.

Notes:

This is visually similar to Paropsisterna, a more colorful genus.
The brown ones get tossed into the "thrachymela group" on the assumption that these are too hard to find a more specific taxon.
It looks similar to Trachymela III from Brisbane insects http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_leafbeetles/Trachymela.htm

Thanks Mark, it sure is. I've added a photo together with Paropsisterna variicollis to show how similar they are. A slightly larger Paropsis also wanted to get into the photo.
