Field Notes

Description:

Male has bright red patch on top, a black and white back with a sort of V pattern. Female lacks red patch; at least that's the other bird I saw flitting around the same area. Seems to have a black V among the markings on his back.

Habitat:

Deciduous woodland, partway up the Baraboo Bluffs at Devils Lake State Park.
