Field Notes

Description:

Nest contains one hatched chick accompanied by four sibling eggs. Image three adult bird, image four adult on the nest.

Habitat:

Garden in Chiang Mai, nest in bamboo

Notes:

These small, protected birds are highly sought after in Thailand for singing competitions, particularly in the south of the Kingdom. I'm told the best birds can change hands for up to 200,000 Baht, just over 6,000 USD. A Thai friend saw these images on my computer and immediately wanted to now the location of the nest, with the intention of selling some of the chicks (around 500 Baht each). For this reason the map location is incorrect, I mean massively incorrect.

Good for you Rob. If you can't eat it sell it. I lost count of the birds (RWB) I set free when I lived in Pattaya.
