Description:
The Cecropia Moth, Hyalophora cecropia, is a vibrant moth in the Saturniidae family dominated by brownish wings and gorgeous patterns along the edges with white markings surrounded by orange-red. Hyalophora cecropia is also known as the Robin Moth. This moth has the largest wingspan of native moths in temperate North America with wingspans between 110 and 150 mm.
Habitat:
This Cecropia Moth was found by a IB Biology student in a swampland habitat.
Notes:
Lifer! I was ecstatic when one of the upperclassmen brought it into my class! My science teacher asked me me what it was in the middle of science class and I immediately identified it! It was quite the unexpected surprise, and I was so glad to share the excitement with the whole class. The moth was released safely after this photo.
