Field Notes

Description:

Small tree. Fruit maybe 2" long.

Habitat:

Forest understory.

Notes:

The sun behind them made these fruits almost glow. Very "bladder" looking! I was trying to find the pawpaws that must be around there somewhere, but the floor growth in the woods was too much to navigate and I found these strange trees instead. A number of these in the same place. Is that called a stand? If they weren't trees I'd call it a patch.
