Field Notes

Description:

Mid-afternoon with full sun. Imagine my surprise at spotting this Long-eared Owl.

Habitat:

Yellowstone National Park, WY, USA - scrub brush plains.

Notes:

My favorite "spot" of all time! Two hours earlier we passed this location and saw all the professional photographers stalking something. Finally on the way back, we stopped to ask what they were looking at, and before I could get out of the car, this owl took flight and landed 3 feet from my door. I took this picture out the passenger side window and the owl flew away 5 seconds later. Professionals not happy with me, but I got my shot.
