yes, that does look like a good match...it sort of resembles valerian as well though valerian's stalk is ribbed...i know i've seen this in "our neck of the woods" as well...if this is close to where you are, i'd be interested to see photos as the season progresses...much easier to i.d. when it blooms...

It's in a fen area, and remnants of talk, stalky growth were evident in the spring, so I think its a forb of some kind. THe stalks were an inch or so in diameter and the buds as big as my fist. Kind of prehistoric looking.

looks like maybe walnut...this is regenerative growth and there's a mature walnut in the background...
