Field Notes

Description:

Size is 23-28 mm for the species. Broadly oval in shape and marked as shown in dark brown and orange.

Habitat:

Several specimens were attracted to a mercury vapor light and blacklight setup at night in Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge in south Texas. Habitat is coastal wetland.

Notes:

Feeds at night on blood of mammals, usually rodents such as wood rats.
