Field Notes

Description:

24" large eagle-like bird with white belly and black brown back. It has large wings angled backwards with black "wrist" marks. White head with a black streak across eyes.

Habitat:

Ospreys don't eat much else but fish, they must have access to open water. They are the only raptor that will plunge into the water to catch fish. Come March, as ice melts on Minnesota's lakes and rivers, they return from as far away as South America.

Notes:

These 2 osprey were spotted about 1/4 mile along Bruce Blvd. on HWY 26. Their large nest was built on a tall dead pine tree.
