Field Notes

Description:

A bee-like moth with clear wings.

Habitat:

Adjacent to a small stream. Altitude 1000m.

Notes:

For its size, this bug is an accomplished flyer, with a very rapid wing beat, though not fast enough to make a buzz sound. Hard to believe it is a moth when you see it fly. It is even capable of hovering in front of a bloom, to take nectar. At 30mm length (measured), a most impressive bug.

These hummingbird-type moths are so cool; nice capture!
Jason - Ah, I remember the discussion on this caterpillar about a week ago. I have not seen the caterpillar yet (I don't think). Next target is an in-flight shot :) Dave
Great! You got it Dave! I only have the photos of the catterpilar, http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/23159133
