Field Notes

Description:

The flowers of this plant are describes as being yellowish green, but they looked pink to me. It's an unusual and "fleshy" flower, and the green twigs are somewhat distinctive as well, but these are nothing compared to the really interesting fruit and seed pod that will appear later in the season and pop open in the fall.

Habitat:

Native to Eastern US.

Notes:

Spotted growing along the road in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
