Field Notes

Description:

Grey upperparts, head and chest, darker on the wings and tail and pale yellow on belly. Thick pointed bill. Similar to the Western the Cassin's Kingbird has a very fine white line under the edge of tail feathers, not the wide margin one the Western has. Their head and chest is a darker shade of grey then the Western. But the Cassin's has a white chin and cheeks. This was confirmed by local birders. These birds are also noisy.

Habitat:

Open woodlands.

Notes:

Though mainly found in SW states, these have been visiting the lower Central Valley area. This and a few others were spotted in a campground in San Luis Reservoir.
