Field Notes

Description:

12 to 15 inches tall at the top of head. Sable colored overall with a prominent dorsal strip of darker sable to black color. Chihuahuas are very small dogs (this one is 7 pounds) and are the smallest breed recognized by some kennel clubs. There are two main varieties recognized by kennel clubs, the short-haired and the long-haired. There is a second varietal split as well, having to do with the shape and size of the dog's head. These two descriptive classifications are "apple head" and "deer head."

Habitat:

Primarily an urban canid dwelling in my apartment and office. Tends to be found laying in soft blankets and beds made for dogs as well as begging for morsels of food. Loves to chase ducks and other dogs that are often 10 times her weight. No fear
Unlike the breed this animal is calm, mellow and well behaved with great tolerance for all humans except some irritating ones. Rarely barks and is generally a good companion.

Notes:

I have though my entire life had animals. I have usually had larger dogs - Labs, Shepherds, etc. This is the first Chihuahua I have had. I had always observed and heard what "monsters" they are. I apparently was lucky and have a very mellow, obedient (relatively) dog.
