Description:
A striking black-and-white bird with very long, thin red legs, the Black-necked Stilt is found along the edges of shallow water in open country. This large shorebird has a black face, hind neck, and back with a white throat and underparts. It has a long, thin, straight black bill.
Habitat:
Resting on one leg in a pond near the edge of Lake Texoma at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge: http://www.fws.gov/refuges/profiles/index.cfm?id=21580
