Field Notes

Description:

Small beetle, red or pinkish coloration with distinct black patterning. This species does have some variation in pattern. Feeds on various soft bodied insects, especially noted to be major predators of the Imported Willow Leaf Beetle, Plagiodera versicolora (which were on this tree).

Habitat:

Suburban yard on an ornamental willow.

Notes:

I was very happy to see these beautiful native species again this year (spotted last year as well on the same tree).
