Field Notes

Description:

Forelegs designed for digging and a large oblong pronotum. The wings project slightly from beneath the forewings. After mating underground, the female builds a nesting chamber deep in the soil and lays about two hundred oval eggs which hatch after ten days.

Habitat:

Western Himalayas.

Notes:

This poor fellow was attacked by my dog. Usually my dog would eat such critters, but he broke off its legs and left it at that. Later I saw ants eating it to death.

Where did you find this bird? Is it dead? Do you know what the blue thing is on its tail? I feel bad for the Oriental Mole Cricket.
Hi 4D4Gprojectnoah. I spotted it at my house. I see many of them here these days and try to keep my dog away. It wasn't dead when I was clicking it. But my dog had damaged its legs so it was going to die eventually. I have no idea about that blue coloration. I am curious about it too.
