Description:

The Sapphire-vented Puffleg is a species of hummingbird in the Trochilidae family. It is found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests

Notes:

Most common of the Pufflegs, but still only found above 10,000 ft elevation

4D4G - a short flight to Quito, followed by a 2 hour drive up the andes to a place called Yanacocha, then a 2 hour climb toward the active volcano. That's all it takes :-) This bird was the most common puffleg at the feeding stations and even on the trails leading up to them at the reserve in Yanacocha.
